ADO buses are comfortable, air-conditioned, and connect Mérida, Valladolid, and Tulum directly. Book Chichén Itzá tickets online

Chichén Itzá gets very busy with day-trippers from Cancún and the Riviera Maya. Arriving early (by 8:30) and buying tickets online in advance avoids the worst crowds and heat.

Book the Sian Ka'an boat tour ahead

Boat trips into the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve run in limited daily groups through community-run cooperatives. Reserve a spot a few days ahead, especially in high season, and bring cash for any entrance fees not included in the tour.

The Yucatán heat is real
